From today (Friday 3rd September), Radio Glamorgan (RG) now serves three hospitals across the Cardiff and Vale University Health Board.
As well as broadcasting across the University Hospital of Wales which has been the station’s home since 1974, the service will now provide for patients at the nearby St David’s Hospital.
Alongside this RG will once again broadcast to the Cardiff Royal Infirmary, it’s original base when the station launched in 1967.
Angela Hughes, Assistant Director of Patient Experience said:
“Radio Glamorgan has been really important to people at University Hospital of Wales, providing entertainment and comfort to staff and patients in our care.
We are delighted that Radio Glamorgan will now cover St David’s Hospital and Cardiff Royal Infirmary too. On behalf of the Health Board, I would like to take this opportunity to say a special thank you to the team of volunteers who do an incredible job at the station.”
Chairman of Radio Glamorgan, Jaime Pritchard added:
"Over the last few years, we've been looking at hospitals across the area that aren't already served by a radio station, so it made perfect sense to expand our award-winning service to the two closest sites.
Listeners will be able enjoy the great range of programmes we have to offer and make requests through our easy-to-use website and app too.
We're continuing our close working relationship with the Cardiff and Vale Health Board Patient Experience Team too, who are doing an amazing job helping us spread the word across all the areas we serve as well"
To celebrate the expansion, there’ll be a whole day of special live programming on Radio Glamorgan, also the chance to win a tech bundle (worth £135) consisting of a Smart-Speaker, Kindle and Smart Plug.
