Training manager

Andy Carter - HBA training manager

is the current Training manager.

I'm Andy Carter - HBA's training manager.

I only took up this role in December 2016, but I'm hoping that 2017 will be the year when the association is able to offer some training opportunities for volunteers at our member stations.

I'm starting with a bit of a blank sheet of paper, so am keen to understand what training needs our members have.  You are very welcome to email me at with ideas, comments or demands!  I hope to circulate a more formal questionnaire in the New Year.

In terms of my background, I'm a former broadcast journalist.  After a 17 year career in front of the microphone, I switched to PR and communications at the beginning of 2008.  I am currently working as the head of communications at City of York Council and I run my own PR, communications and broadcast consultancy business.

I've been supporting the HBA for several years.  I began by running a session on presentation skills at a training event in Leeds.  Since then, I've run workshops in Northampton, Blackpool, Scotland and Birmingham.  I've also been involved with seminars at conference.

Professionally, I used to be responsible for training and development for a group of local radio stations and I now run training courses for my client organisations.

All members of the Hospital Broadcasting Association are volunteers and will respond to any contact as quickly as possible. Please understand, however, that work or family commitments mean that availability may not always be immediate and may be limited to evenings and weekends.
